Description

High-end bouldering and climbing shoe with a specific heel design for maximum performance during difficult heel hooks. The wide, anatomically designed last with a powerful downturn enables perfect pulling on overhangs and supports the toes when standing on the smallest of footholds. Offset VCR straps allow individual and secure adjustment to the foot. The sock-like design prevents rubbing and pressure points and makes the VOLTAGE comfortable despite its aggressive shape. Thanks to the elastic, knitted fabric tongue, the foot is better ventilated.

Cons

I’ve used it a ton

Things I Love:
Performance - They preform amazing in the gym. Great all arounders. Smearing. Edging. Heel Hooking. They have it all. They have a pretty flexible mid sole but the toe box is really supportive.
Comfort - They are wider than most shoes which is perfect for me.

Comfort - They are wider than most shoes which is perfect for me.
Durability - The straps, knit, rand, heel will last at least one resole. They are still all in great considition after 6+ months

Things I dont love or hate:
Comfort - These aren't shoes you can stand around in all day. I sized them so my big toe isnt curled in but my other toes have a slight curl. This has been great for performance but these are not shoes I would belay in.

Things I hate:
N/A - There really isnt anything I hate about these shoes and I will definitely be buying another pair

Summary: all together I think I have found the bouldering shoe for me. It is a wonderful shoe for the gym and checks all the boxes for me.

Typically German, the Voltage immediately stands out for its solid build quality and logical set of features, not to mention its efficient re-design of the original. Fixing the issues that blighted the first version (heel, straps, tensioning etc.), the Voltage 2.0 is now a fantastic all-round performer with a downturned profile and stiff front end that defines the shoe’s skill set. More ‘snub-nosed’ than Red Chili’s other high performance shoe, the Mystix, the Voltage is all about raw power on overhanging footholds thanks to a newly designed last which pumps all of the energy to the front of the shoe.

“I would recommend this shoe to anyone looking for a performance shoe but who doesn’t get off on screaming pain,” said one tester, who used the Voltage 2 to redpoint the steep, heel-hooking and edging climb Backdoor Man (5.12a) at Staunton State Park, Colorado. While this tester, who wore his shoes large, wished the big toe and heel had more bite, our other tester, in her tight pair, couldn’t sing these attributes’ praises enough. On a V5 on the slippery quartzite of the Swan Mountain Boulders, Colorado, she “locked in perfectly” on the heel-hook beta, calling the Voltage 2 the “most perfect heel-hooking shoe I’ve ever used.” Perhaps this is because the shoe has a well-considered ample forefoot mixed with a tapered heel and only slightly extruded heelcup—the anatomical shape meant the heel stayed put. And for the rock’s demanding edging, she noted performance so natural she barely had to consider it; she also appreciated how well the edge has held up. Basically, if you like aggressive shoes but can’t stomach foot pain, this is a top contender.
