M5
Description
With a little wider platform than the shark, the M5 is designed for both performance and comfort. We took a twist on our patented concave sole with this design...you'll notice for the first time in Mad Rock history, the concave sole features our flat sole design for optimal overhanging grabbing, it also creates a sharper edge for standing on tiny holds and ledges. The Arch Flex ensures the glove like fit that you've come to expect from our performance shoes, and the new Torque Heel will enable you to exploit rock features like never before. The Power Upper covering the majority of the forefoot adds more than 30% of rubber to facilitate toe hooking and jamming. Great for Bouldering, Sport, Competition, Crack Climbing and the Gym.

The most unique thing about the M5 (Mugen 5) is that for the first time in Mad Rock history, their concave sole features a flat sole design. The flat sole gives it a more relaxed fit without the toes being "down-turned" like more aggressive concave designs. The concave aspect allows it to grab and hook onto steeper terrain like the down-turned designs while the flatness keeps the toes from being unnaturally bent. A custom molded mid-sole gives the right blend of rigidity and sensitivity. This design gives a fairly high amount of overall performance balanced with a relaxed and comfortable feel.
As climbing shoes creep toward the $200 mark each and every year, the Mad Rock M5 is a refreshingly great do-it-all shoe that won’t break the bank. It has a high arch, medium-wide fit and a low-volume heel that leaves little dead space in the shoe, but remains comfortable throughout the day if sized properly. It’s slightly downturned toe will handle sport climbs, gym routes and boulder problems, but its stiffness lands it as an all-day, all-purpose shoe.
The M5 is a great all-around performer but it really shines in the comfort department. It pulls on easily and the polyester lined foot bed and cushy tongue add softness and eliminate hotspots. Size them tight for increased performance on high-angle sport climbs and boulders, or slightly bigger for all-day multi-pitch adventures or standing around between burns in the gym. The real draw for some, however, might be the price point. Retailing for just $105, the M5 might be the best bang-for-your-buck shoe on the market.
