Lotus

Rating

My vote: None ( 4.7 avg )

Description

Convenient as two-or three-strap shoes, the Lotus maintains a tight performance slipper fit, but minimizes the work of squeezing on the shoe. The new closure system allows us to use the split tongue design. Best for tackling comps and especially overhanging terrain, the Lotus is sure to be your go-to sending shoe.

Your "fit" should be determined by the type of climbing that you intend doing, combined with your experience level. Remember that leather upper shoes are likely to stretch over time (mostly in lateral width), while lined and synthetic upper shoes are not likely to stretch much at all.

Arch Flex Technology

Arch Flex

By utilizing our 1.8mm R2 rand rubber, the Arch Flex system gives Mad Rock shoes an unbelievably comfortable and glove-like fit. The elastic property in our R2 formula hugs and locks your foot in to place without the pain associated with other high performance shoes.
Concave Sole Technology

Concave Sole

Mad Rock's innovative and patented Concave Sole allows climbers to utilize their feet as they would their hands. Concave soles are optimal for grabbing at holds while climbing on overhangs, and also help to create a sharper edge and better support for standing on tiny holds and edges.
Polycarbonate Midsole Technology

Polycarbonate Midsole

Our AES midsoles utilizes 3D molded polycarbonate material to maintain its shape throughout the life of the shoe. It also provides a predictable and consistent flex throughout its lifespan without sacrificing sensitivity. Due to its stiffness, we were able to incorporate this new midsole material in conjunction with our 3D molded rubber sole to increase performance and stability while minimizing the thickness of both. Our AES consists of 3 midsole shapes to control flex and edging.
Power Upper Technology

Power Upper

Combined with our new Science Friction3.0 rubber, our latest power upper design is by far the stickiest yet. Through the use of our new rubber impregnation technology, the power upper is thin, light, sensitive and ultra sticky.
Science Friction 3.0 Technology

Science Friction 3.0

Years after the launch of the first Mad Rock rubber formula, our new Science Friction 3.0 compound marks a special milestone for the Mad Rock brand. After exhaustive research and a new production process originating in the USA, our new formula has a distinctively different characteristic than our previous batches. More durable than any of our previous formulas, our new Science Friction 3.0 also boasts higher friction. This optimal balance is incorporated into our new mix by increasing the tear strength and the memory of the compound. Due to its unique characteristics and unparalleled performance, our new Science Friction 3.0 formula is used on all of our shoes components like the 3D Power Upper, 3D Hooking Heel, 3D Concave Sole as well as the soles in all of our rock shoes.
Science Friction R2 Technology

Science Friction R2

In addition to the new formula for the sole and components of our new 2011 line, the new Science Friction formula was also incorporated into our new rand rubber mix. Higher friction and durability for the rand rubber is a testament to our commitment to performance and improvement in our rock shoe line. Enhancing the elasticity of the rand rubber was also a priority when developing the new rand rubber. As our new Science Friction R2 has greater give without the loss of performance, our new models feel extremely comfortable and sensitive, giving you that glove-like fit.

Outdoor Gear Lab Gear Review rating 4/5

With the fit of a slipper, sticky rubber, and an aggressive shape, the Mad Rock Lotus is a steep climbing powerhouse. These shoes are great for the gym or bouldering since they are easy to get on and off. If they are sized properly (definitely go up a size or two from your street shoe size!) they also make for a comfortable shoe for all-day sport climbing. We are impressed with these kicks, as they're hard to beat when it comes to price and overall performance.

If you love the fit and sensitivity of a snug slipper, but want slightly more support for toeing in on steeps, this is your shoe. Even the narrowest-footed ladies will get excited over the well-designed fit, and the perfect heel is unbeatable.

Rock and Ice Gear Review rating 4/5

I’ve worn the Lotus while sport climbing on both limestone and granite and while training in the gym. They’ve excelled on all overhanging terrain, and can heel or toe hook as well as any shoe I’ve ever worn. The extra flange of rubber on the heel cup didn’t improve my heel hooking ability, but it stayed comfortably in place. The Science Friction 3.0 rubber performed well on all surfaces, with average durability.
