Description

If the name really says it all, then the ROCKET will literally thrust ambitious climbers up the wall. The uncushioned mono-velcro climbing shoe at least allows optimal control with direct transfer of power through its VIBRAM XS-Grip® sole. Due to its sock-like fit and flexible elastic material, the cambered shoe fits snug to the foot like a second skin to give the best performance on the cliff face, indoors or while bouldering.

I’ve tested these shoes all over northern New Mexico, from the conglomerate rock of El Rito to the bullet quartzite of the Ortega Mountains to the river-polished sandstone of Roy. What impressed me most about the Rocket is how well it performed in various types of terrain and across all flavors of climbing—multipitch, trad, sport, bouldering, plastic.

Lowa puts as much care into their climbing shoes as they do their famous boots, and this sock-like, rubber-heavy shoe performs similarly well. The rounded toebox made frontpointing a little tricky, but the vacuum fit and XS Grip rubber made these shoes edging machines. The soft fit, single Velcro closure, and big pull tabs on the rear of the shoe meant easy on-off between climbs.
