Pros
Comfortable
Super stiff
Foot confidence
Cons

I’ve used it a few of times

Tese are my to go outdoor shoes now. Super stiff the first few wears BUT once you put up some routes and sweat into them the leather adjusts. The sole is extremely stiff and you can trust small edges. The ankle portection is nice. Great shoes overall.

If you’re reading this, there’s a good chance you know who Tommy Caldwell is. He climbed this little thing called the Dawn Wall in Yosemite in 2015, and this is the shoe that TC designed for the job. As a result, the TC Pro is an absolute climbing machine for vertical to less-than-vertical terrain, and specifically granite. While we often correlate a flat shoe with a beginner shoe, this is a notable exception: The stiff makeup and sticky XS Edge rubber make it an ultra-high-performance edger and slabber. But why most climbers love the TC Pro is its stellar performance in cracks. With padding at the tongue and ankles and a mid-height upper, it provides game-changing protection for everything from thin foot jams to burly offwidths.

Finally—and this is fairly picky: I think the new thin green leather sleeve protecting the lower eyelets should be on the other side of the shoe. Tommy Caldwell claims otherwise, but I’ve already got the abrasion on the outside edge of the shoe to back up my opinion. Not that this has made any difference at all in my climbing… it’s simply the fact that having it on what feels like the wrong side seems gimmicky. But maybe TC and I just have different pain points when it comes to hand crack climbing.

The La Sportiva TC Pro has a serious fan club, but there are also a few detractors. Some of these detractors are just grumpy contrarians, but criticism about limited sensitivity and poor performance on overhanging terrain seem warranted. Nevertheless, the TC Pro is easily one of the most popular shoes in the granite climbing areas of the American West, and it's easy to understand why. Its excellent balance of comfort, edging performance, and sensitivity remain unmatched by its rivals. To get your hands on a pair, you'll have to fork over some serious cash, but we're confident you'll be pleased with what we believe is the Best Shoe for Trad and Crack Climbing.
