For your average mid-high level climber/boulderer, a slight amount of added weight is not a big deal and can be totally worth it for the ease of use of the Velcro closure systems. For the elite, highest level athlete having the lightest possible shoe could make a difference. In addition to being lighter weight, the Dragon outperforms the Shaman, Team and Solution at all-around technical footwork. It performs better and better the steeper the rock gets.
The Dragon is an aggressive shoe specifically designed to excel on high-level boulder problems that also delivers performance across the board for bouldering to sport climbing (but not across the board from boulder to trad climbing).
Any intermediate or advanced boulder looking for a powerful and aggressive shoe would do well to consider the Dragon.
Many Five Ten models dig into my Achilles tendon and this one was no different. With time, however, the shoe stretched to a more comfortable fit. I got the Dragons in the same size as my street shoe. The slightly narrow heel cup molded better to my foot, and the synthetic leather over the toe box gave just enough to keep my toes curled but comfortable.
