Boreal Lynx is the consummate all-rounder. Featuring a subtly downturned last shape and ultra sticky Zenith™ rubber, Lynx is just as happy padding up a friction slab as it is standing on micro edges. Such versatility makes this the perfect “do it all” shoe.
The last shape has evolved from a previous version of our popular Lynx model, with a wider forefoot and slimmer heel providing a secure and comfortable fit for the average foot. The upper consists of a premium quality unlined split leather, with a padded, wide opening neoprene "V- tongue". This works in conjunction with our full length lacing to provide a secure and comfortable fit. Our V2 Rand™, a 2-part rand that tensions a much larger area of the shoe, provides the ultimate heel fit.
The medium-soft midsole and marginally downturned last shape combine to produce excellent edging performance, while our super-sticky Zenith™ rubber provides friction on even the most delicate slab. Boreal Lynx is a precise, sensitive and comfortable shoe. It is ideal for vertical to moderately overhanging terrain, and is the perfect option for those wanting one shoe for everything.

Controversial though it might sound, and imaginary though the concept might be, I do believe the Lynx to be a good all-rounder. In this day and age where many climbing shoe manufacturers appear to be discontinuing all their stiff boots it is quite refreshing to have Boreal present something a little different. If you’re after a pair of boots that could take you up long mountain routes from Diff to E6 (arms permitting) or 9as at Malham (!!) then try a pair on – they might just be for you.
The Boreal Lynx is a very good all-round climbing shoe for climbers who like to push their limits on different types of rock, without sacrificing too much comfort. The “Zenith” rubber makes it possible for you to stand onto the tiniest holds, without slipping off. The tight fitting heel and the downtoe allow you to accomplish the most technical moves, without you being scared to pop off. The shoe isn’t made for beginners, because of the relatively high cost and the low durability of the rubber rand.
I consider myself an all round climber and although having Malham and Kilnsey on my doorstep means I tend to sport climb quite a lot (it’s good for fitness)I found the Boreal Lynx a great shoe for all occasions. They can claim to be in the performance category as the fit is supreme as long as you get the sizing right for your foot shape. The claim to be an all rounder is a tough call but I believe Boreal is onto a winner with the Lynx and if you are currently wearing Jokers and are looking for a move into the performance category then the Boreal Lynx might just be what you are looking for.
Marketed for all-around performance, the Lynx is a comfy trad shoe with a little sass. The last is slightly asymmetric and ever-so-slightly downturned, which adds an element of performance to an otherwise average shoe. Unlined leather uppers and a padded mesh tongue make it comfortable to wear all day if you size them generously. (A tighter fit will take advantage of the last shape, transforming the Lynx into a shoe that can handle overhangs.) Laces cinch the top of the shoe but don’t extend far enough down to fine-tune the fit of the toe. That said, the Lynx fits slightly narrower in the toe box than most Boreals, so a snug fit is guaranteed for all but the narrowest feet. The most conspicuous quirk of this shoe is its thick outsole (5mm to 5.5mm Zenith rubber, depending on shoe size), which makes the Lynx feel clunky at first. Over time, the rubber wears down to become more sensitive, and the thicker sole provides more rubber longevity and protection for cracks, broken terrain, and walk-downs from long climbs.
