Kintaro Women
Description
Boreal Kintaro Women’s is the key to unlocking your true potential. Featuring a downturned and highly asymmetric women’s specific last shape combined with the outstandingly sticky Zenith™ rubber, Kintaro is the model of choice when the going gets steep.
Developed from the previous incarnation of our highly acclaimed Kintaro, the shoe has evolved into a true high-performance all-rounder. The all new women’s specific last shape fits the contours of a lower volume foot, with a lower cut ankle and slim fitting heel. When combined with our high quality unlined leather upper, padded neoprene tongue and double width strap closure, this results in a highly secure and comfortable fit. Our V2 Rand™, a 2-part rand that tensions a much larger area of the shoe, provides the ultimate heel fit.
The soft midsole and super sticky Zenith™ rubber allows the use of marginal smears, while the high degree of downturn and asymmetry helps direct power to the big toe for those tiny edges. Boreal Kintaro Women’s is a precise, sensitive shoe that still manages to remain comfortable. It is ideal for steeper rock, and will suit boulderers, sport and trad climbers looking to operate at higher grades.

Where the Kintaro really excels is on steep walls, both rock and plastic. The combination of the down-turned toe and super sticky rubber allow for some real pull with the feet when your toes are grasping for edges in overhangs. In particular, I found the Kintaro to be a top performer on plastic. The soft sole seemed to grab jibs and embed them in the rubber instead of trying to just edge on top of them.
“I was able to stand up tall on the wicked, pocketed feet of Mr. Witty (V6) in the Happies as much as the minuscule foot crystals that litter the Buttermilks,” said a boulderer who took them to Bishop. “I would highly recommend these shoes for a beginner-intermediate climber looking for more response and sensitivity in overhanging terrain.” Where the Kintaro really shines is combining performance and comfort—a huge plus for long sport routes or long, technical trad climbs.
