Description

Versatile rope for experienced climbers:
- thin rope, excellent balance between weight and performance
- for use in rock, mixed, snow or ice environments
Greater longevity and ease of use in any conditions:
- Duratec Dry treatment: dry treatment makes the rope more resistant to water, dirt and abrasion; handling, grip and other characteristics are retained longer in cold, wet conditions
- UltraSonic Finish: the core and the sheath are bonded together at the rope ends by an ultrasonic process called UltraSonic Finish; gives greater durability and avoids frayed ends
- ClimbReady coil: specific coil makes the rope ready for use; helps the user avoid initial uncoiling mistakes and increases longevity
More effective belaying:
- Middle Mark: indicates the middle of the rope to facilitate maneuvers
- EverFlex treatment: special thermal treatment stabilizes the core strands and improves consistency; offers excellent grip and consistent handling over time

Outdoor Gear Lab Gear Review rating 5/5

There was a lot to like about the Petzl Arial, and if it had withstood the abuses of our climbing a little bit better, it could have been an award winner. As it stands, this is still a great option.

Squamish Climbing Magazine Gear Review rating 8.5/10

Overall, the Petzl Arial 9.5 is one of the most durable ropes on the market. Whether you are projecting or roping up for a few pitches with some friend, this rope should last longer than most ropes. Over a six month period, the Arial was able to absorb substantial amount of abuse from single pitch climbing. It took us six months before we had to chop either end of the rope despite climbing on multiple projects. Out of the coil, the Arial is pretty slick and runs through the gri gri rather quickly so some caution is required during initial use. It has a soft but not too soft feel and was able to keep its shape rather well through the lifespan of its use. We would highly recommend this rope to anyone looking for a rope that will withstand a ton of abuse for a long period of time.

The Arial measures in at a slim 9.5mm making it a great “fit” for a variety of climbing situations, including rock, ice, and snow. I definitely recommend it for sport climbing, but if you’re going to be top roping a ton or if you’re really new to sport climbing you’ll probably want something a bit thicker. This rope also fits perfectly into a Gri-Gri 2, never getting stuck or feeling like it’s gliding through with a little too much ease. At just 9.5mm the Arial is pretty lightweight, yet still substantial enough to make you feel like you’re not hanging from a string.

Splitter Choss Gear Review rating 3.5/4

The Arial has excellent handling, the catch is soft and the 9.5 diameter means you can use it for just about anything, except maybe big wall climbing. My only concern is how quickly I’m seeing some fuzz, but time will tell if it’s a one time event or a sign of things to come. Regardless, these are some quality cords that shouldn’t take long to establish themselves as premier climbing ropes.

Rock and Ice Gear Review rating 4/5

I gave the Arial 9.5 mm rope four stars because the rope is one of the best sport climbing cords I’ve used. The diameter fit squarely in the Goldilocks realm—not too fat, not too skinny. Plus, handling the rope is a treat. From the factory coil, the Arial is slinky and soft. The only downside is the cost.
