I have used the Dragonfly double rope system for one full northeast season now and I can’t complain. Beyond a light amount of sheath fuzz, I couldn’t be happier with a set of doubles. They are not only Dragonfly light (namesake) they perform well in every condition I have put them through and on super long pitches I am no longer blaming my partner for rope drag. The Dragonfly’s are outstanding on wandering trad or long ice routes. They are easily split up between my partner and I, making the approach pack lighter, and faster. They go inside my pack easily without being super bulky, another reason why doubles rock. The colors are ultra bright and easy to distinguish apart under dark skies when work has you by the 9-5 schedule. Also the core and sheath strands are individually treated, which helps repel water in damp conditions or dripping icicles.
Overall, I am pleased with the performance of the Dragonflys and would recommend them as a good set of half ropes for ice climbing. Their biggest weakness is that they do not take well to heavy use on rock. But between their light weight and excellent dry treatment they still have a place as an expedition rope, or a rope for summer routes with long approaches. Despite my initial doubts they survived the season in decent shape, and I will continue using them next winter.
