Outdoor Gear Lab Gear Review rating 3/5

The Metolius Inferno II Quickdraws are a reasonably affordable and easily clip-able quickdraw that performed about average in our test group. However, they suffer from a flaw that keeps the bottom carabiner oriented incorrectly most of the time. While this doesn't seem to be unsafe, it is annoying, in a way that you don't want your climbing gear to be, and so we would generally recommend purchasing a different set of draws, regardless of your intended usage or budget.

Metolius has updated the beloved Inferno with the Inferno II, a notably light (3.2oz) yet sturdy draw thanks to the double-layer 14mm Monster webbing, which provided a stiff, hard-wearing dogbone and made them ideal for stretchy clips or redpoint usage. I used them pretty much everywhere, from demanding multi-pitch trad and sport, to sea-cliff climbing, to onsighting, and was impressed by their versatility and performance, as were my partners. The matching oblong-D wiregate top and bottom biners clipped mega-smooth and mega-fast, with spry gate action, and the beefy JIG biner keeper on the rope-side biner meant zero flippage, even on wandering or rope-draggy pitches. These are perhaps Metolius’ best draws to date.

Overall, the Metolius Inferno II is one of the best narrow width dog bone draws on the market. Without a doubt, its stand out feature is its narrow, double layered dogbone that actually feels good to grab and its overall lightweight at 90 grams. The Inferno is a must for anyone trying to cut weight with a streamlined design with great functionality and a natural feel.
