I hung a Bulletproof 'draw at the first bolt of Magnetar—one of the most popular (read: softest) 5.13ds in the canyon—in early May. It replaced an aluminum quickdraw that was already becoming significantly grooved. The Bulletproof quickdraw hung there four months, until the end of August. There is almost zero wear on the steel sleeve where countless ropes ran over it, see-sawing back and forth against the metal, climber after climber, day after day. The rubber holding the rope-side carabiner in place is now dried and cracked, but otherwise it's almost impossible to discern the quickdraw from a brand new one. Thus my five-star rating. I will definitely be adding more Bulletproof carabiners to my rack.
We were really excited to check out the Edelrid Bulletproof quickdraw, and it didn't disappoint. While not our favorite overall draw, we think it's a great compliment to any rack, and we plan on keeping a couple of these around for extreme top-roping sessions or the first bolt on our proj. We've given it our Top Pick for Durability award for the extra longevity that the stainless steel insert is sure to impart, and we'll keep using it to test its lifespan compared to an all-aluminum draw.
I think the Edelrid Bulletproof carabiner concept is an elegant solution to increasing the durability of carabiners while still keeping weight and cost at a reasonable level. They are significantly more expensive than standard draws, but the Bulletproof quickdraws do not wear nearly as fast and they’re still pretty light. If you consistently sport climb outside (no matter how hard you climb), I would absolutely recommend adding a couple Bulletproof quickdraws to your rack.
The Bulletproof functions like a high-end quickdraw should — remaining mostly forgotten until it catches a fall. It does weigh more than other options, but the wear resistance is legitimate. And the quality of construction and materials suggests a longer lifespan than quickdraws with all-aluminum carabiners.
Raise your hand if you’re tired of either a) Clipping sketchy, grooved “fixed” draws or B) having to retire a beloved draw because of rope-side-biner grooving. Edelrid has come up with an ingenious solution with their new Bulletproof Quickdraw: The top biner is a nice, smooth-clipping Bullet biner, but it’s the bottom biner that counts—the keylock closure Bulletproof clipper with a steel insert where the rope runs. Having the one bit of steel keeps the 12 cm draw light (4.1 oz) while seriously reducing wear and tear. The rope runs smoothly too; I used these to my great satisfaction in Boulder Canyon, while leading as well as at anchors on a fixed rope for solo-TR’ing.

Overall, we were very psyched on the Edelrid Bulletproof and would highly recommend them to our readers. First and foremost, these quickdraws will simple last longer than you aluminum draws because of the steel inset placed in the rope side carabiner. Secondly, the design of these quickdraws have been thoroughly tested and undoubtedly are one of the easiest draws to place and remove when sport climbing. Finally, we concluded that the weight (and extra cost!) of these draws are worth the safety benefits that are associated with longer lasting draws.
