Cypher Firefly II Wire 11cm Quickdraw

Firefly II Wire 11cm

Rating

My vote: None ( 3.4 avg )

Description

The Firefly quickdraw makes no compromises in function or safety. Hot forged technology puts the load bearing material where it counts to maximize strength and minimie weight. Lighten up your backcountry rack. Dyneema slings in a variety of lengths from 11cm sport-draws to 25cm draws for reduced walking on cams or nuts. For bolt clipping choose the MIX version for a keylock bolt end and a light wire gate rope rope end.

6 pack comes with a locking Firefly carabiner.

Nice to meet you, I'm a climber

Pros
Lightweight design with easy clipping and handling.
If rock side biner cross loads, the open loop will allow it to reorient along the spine.
Very satisfying sound when clipping
Cons
Rope side biner can shift out of place in the holder
Familiarity
I’ve used it a ton

These were my first, and primary quickdraws. I bought them on sale from Backcountry because I could get them for about $45 for six, with a firefly II locker. I like them because they are lightweight and fit easily in my small crag bag and rack well on my harness.

They are easy to clip if you are pulling directly down on the draw, but can be difficult to clip if you are clipping from the side. THe rope side biner can and will shift out of place if they are jostled around a lot but that is easy to fix just by rotating the carabiner until it is in line with the rock side. I would recommend these to people who are first learning to climb because they are inexpensive and teach climbers not to grab their draws when clipping because of the thin dog bone.

There's a lot to like about the Cypher Firefly II. It's lightweight and won't feel overly heavy on your harness, but it will keep your wallet feeling heavier. We liked it so much we gave it our Best Buy award for those looking for a great value pick, particularly for traditional climbing.
