Description

Fast ice climbing and technical mountaineering.

Technical boot for high altitude mountaineering, ice climbing and working in cold environments. Composed of two main elements: the outer gaiter and the shell. The shell is made from four different materials (Cordura, microfiber, non-woven fabric, Gore-Tex Insulated Comfort Footwear) is light, comfortable and protective. The six layers carbon fiber insole offers the best support and rigidity. The fast-lock lacing system is fast, easy and precise. The external gaiter is made of Schoeller Soft Shell and guarantees lightness and abrasion resistance, while the Gore-Tex Insulated Comfort Footwear lining offers insulation, waterproofing and breathability. The closure system of the gaiter is with YKK Zip which is fast, waterproof and precise. The outsole package consisting of the TPU automatic crampon attachments, the mono-density microporous midsole to ensure stability, comfort and cushioning and the Vibram Litebase sole with the Vibram Mont compound offers the best grip and performance for maximum lightness. The model is completed with the PU rand and the front rubber toe gives the maximum protection.

Outdoor Gear Lab Gear Review rating 5/5

The Asolo Eiger XT Evo GV is our favorite mountaineering boot and takes home the Editors' Choice Award. Their impressively low weight is the first thing we noticed. They climb really well, whether you're on rock, ice, snow, or any combination of the above. Though the laces are simple, we wish there was a lace lock to attenuate the tension. We found this boot to be plenty warm for us, but climbers with cold feet or those headed out on the most frigid days may want something warmer. Nevertheless, this boot is a tester favorite for pretty much any mountaineering adventure.

Rock and Ice Gear Review no rating given just a review

I wore the Eiger XT EVO in just about every condition down to zero, and my feet were never cold or wet even when water gushed over the boots without my permission. I’ll qualify, I used the Eiger mostly on routes where I was either in constant motion, or the belay sessions were short. I would hesitate to lace on the Eiger for very cold, long routes where you spend significant time immobile at belays, or it’s just really damn cold. For those conditions, I’d opt for a more insulated boot, and this coming winter that will be the Mont Blanc GV.
