Perhaps you're more of a winter hillwalker, but want something that's good for the occasional mountaineering route too; maybe you're a more committed climber, but like easy fast-moving days as well as pushing your grades; or let's imagine you're heading somewhere Alpine or bigger: light, modular, technically able yet not overkill when walking, the versatile Vertex covers a lot of bases. If, like me, you have a weakness for a good axe, and a suitable gap in your current collection, then you..." go to full review
The Nepal Cube GTX is the best of a long line of mountain boots. Our testing team thinks of this boot like the Toyota Tacoma of mountain boots; it's not the fastest or lightest or the highest tech, but it's trusty, durable, and will get you where you need to go. If it fits your foot, this is a good quiver-of-one boot. For those who can never wait for summer to be over, and find yourselves watching Steve House solo Repentance and Remission on YouTube over and over and over, this is your boot..." go to full review
The Scarpa Mont Blanc Pro is a classic single leather boot that gets the job done. Newer boot designs are warmer, lighter, and faster to lace up. If this boot is a great fit for your foot, you may like its climbing performance better than we did. We found this boot to fit lower volume feet better than other single leather boots. While it's not outstanding in any department, we think its all-around performance is good.go to full review
The Lowa Alpine Expert GTX is a reasonably versatile boot that doesn't slay in any one way, except maybe lacing. They get the job done on ice and climb well on rock, with and without crampons. They're warm for a lightweight boot, and waterproof up to about 7 inches, but they lack a built-in gaiter to keep snow out of the cuff. There are lighter weight boots out there, too. Still, if this boot is a good fit for your foot, it will get the job done.go to full review
So, in conclusion, the Scarpa Ribelle HD is a great mountain boot. The comfort of the upper and sole unit offer all day comfort. They are lightweight (722g/boot for a UK8.5) although if you want lighter the Ribelle Light HD will shave a few grams off and the premium suede off increased durability. the 37.5 inner will help regulate the temperature and the HD liner will keep your feet dry. The Ribelle HD would be suitable for all mountain use including winter hiking, glacier travel, technical..." go to full review
The Couloir UL is everything I like from a ‘less is more’ design philosophy. It’s light, simple and faff free. It works perfectly for the activities that it is designed for – namely ski mountaineering, glacier travel and glacier skiing as well as some basic mountaineering. It has zero padding and I wouldn’t wanna hang in it for hours, but I’m never going to. When it’s on, I forget it’s there. I can put it on over crampons or whilst wearing my skis (although I prefer to plan to be wearing it..." go to full review
