Method Men
Description
The Black Diamond Method is built for sending sport pitches, from the blocky limestone of Rifle to the enduro sandstone of the Red. By prioritizing forefoot comfort and a minimal break-in period, the Method is easy on the feet out of the box, while maintaining stiff edge control for increased power for newer outdoor climbers. With a downturned last that’s not ultra-aggressive, these shoes perform well on a variety of angles, from steep to vertical, making them a one-quiver sport shoe for those who value simplicity. The molded sticky rubber—inspired by the way we forge our carabiners—is not cut from one sheet, allowing us to optimize the molds for minimal waste, low weight, consistency and comfort. A stretch-resistant micro-fiber upper provides next to skin comfort, and the tongue is made from our cush, microsuede lined woven textile, which is exceptionally breathable and increases mobility. The Method wraps it all up with Velcro straps that allow you to dial in the desired tension and fit.

With their forgiving last and rounded toe, the Method isn’t the most precise shoe, nor is it meant to be. But they were plenty comfortable, with good ventilation thanks to the split, woven tongue. And they did stealthy-good heel hooking thanks to the 3D molded heel cup, which was deep and supportive without being overbearing. The shoes are also well-crafted — especially for the price — and will hold up well to multiple resoles. In fact, the Black Diamond Method may only improve with age by wearing the manufacturer’s sole down to a more ideal depth. Or one could have them resoled with a crisper, more edging-friendly compound.
Overall I’ve been very impressed with the BD Method; fit, comfort, construction and performance including the rubber are excellent. It is up against some serious competition such as the well established Scarpa Vapour V (a slightly more edging orientated shoe) but it is a worthy competitor and if you tend toward a wider fit probably a better bet.
