The G5 is a highly technical big mountain boot designed for visionary lines. This synthetic, weatherproof boot ensures maximum fit and performance through its Boa® lacing system, while the ankle flex zone supports ease of movement in rough terrain. The external Cordura® gaiters and internal water resistant membrane ensure your feet stay dry in full conditions.

Tips: La Sportiva recommends that you add one 1/2 size to your street shoe size. You should be able to slip one finger behind your heel when you are standing up with the boot unlaced and your toes touching the front. If the boot is too short, your toes will get smashed walking downhill. Too long and your heel will slide up and down and give you blisters. |

With its fancy materials and design, this boot is like a message from the future of what mountain boots will be. It's light, it's warm, and it's quick to put on and adjust. One thing it isn't, however, is water resistant. For some climbers that won't be a deal breaker. If this boot fits your foot and you think you won't be fording any streams or jumping in any puddles this could be the boot for you. Our testers found that this boot felt wider/higher volume in the forefoot than the Scarpa Phantom Tech.
For many durability is one of the main requirements of a winter mountaineering boot, you’ll often hear people wax lyrically about having this or that boot for 10 years or more… “and they’re still going strong!”. The fact they only wear them for their one trip of the year may have something to do with that. However, it is important when investing the price of a climbing holiday to Spain in your footwear. You want them to last. In testing, I did manage to tear the upper of the Cordura gaitor. The boots it seems are no match for an uncovered abalakov threader. Fair enough. Slightly more concerning is the wear, again to the gaiter, that is caused by the tension over the Boa dial. The sole and the new rand feel great, the sole doesn’t pick up snow like the Scarpa equivalents. The rand felt super solid when mixed climbing, the boot wedges in cracks and off-widths giving great confidence. There were very little signs of wear.
