Alpha Light
Description
A carabiner for those who want exceptional handling with minimal weight. The Alpha’s kinked spine sits naturally in the hand, and features grooves on the spine for improved grip. The back design, generous gate opening and deep rope baskets combine to make clipping easy. The Alpha Light’s fully clean nose prevents snagging on gear and ropes, and accidental opening through rubbing on rock.
These carabiners are ideal for building a lightweight rack, whether it’s for fast and light alpine ascents or trad onsight success.
Wire gates are the lightest gate type available, and resist freezing shut in cold conditions. They help reduce rack weight, and are ideal for trad, winter, and alpine climbing.
The gate notch is housed in a recess, creating a smooth inner profile that prevents snagging on gear, ropes and slings. The nose of the carabiner is wider than the gate, helping prevent accidental gate opening caused by rubbing on rock.
The Alpha Light’s ergonomic spine and grippy grooves give confident handling, and combine with deep rope baskets for easy clipping.
I-Beam construction techniques allow carabiners to be lighter without compromising strength. This is achieved through hot forging, a process which allows metal to be made into complex shapes that improve functionality.

The DMM Alpha Light didn't stand out from the pack in any significant way. It's a great "smaller" carabiner if that's what you're looking for, but it didn't have too many advantages over other options that cost a third of the price. Unfortunately, due to the exchange rate between the UK and the US, and the fact that manufacturing your gear in the UK no doubt costs more than in other countries, this carabiner ends up costing a little too much for us compared to the competition.
