Description

Katana woman uses a technology designed by La Sportiva team to condense the precision and comfort of the famous Katana model in a version 100% women's fit. Technical climbing shoe with innovative closure, consisting of two straps with differentiated and opposite pull direction. Ideal for multi-purpose use in the mountains, crags and bouldering. The successful combination of synthetic and natural materials provides the best compromise between comfort, technical performance and inalterability in the long run. A special midsole with prehensile area under the toe provides for optimal edging support, increasing sensitivity. A Vibram sole with Xs Grip2 for maximum grip. These features make the Katana Woman shoe ideal for climbers who love climbing in all its forms, from bouldering to the crag and classical climbing routes on the wall.

Footbed Lining

Pacific (forefoot) / Dentex (back)

Dentex

Synthetic rock shoe lining material with two way stretch.

LaspoFlex

Super lightweight, ultra-thin synthetic fiber-laminate designed for maximum torsion rigidity.

Lorica®

A synthetic leather that is constructed from extremely small micro-fibers for a water-repellant, breathable and highly durable material.

Pacific

Synthetic fiber lining material with characteristics of dynamic adaptibilty (it stretches).

Powerhinge

A technology used in climbing shoes where the bottom of the outsole has a hole cut in it. The slingshot rand is then engineered to connect to the sole of the shoe in this area. When the toe of the shoe is weighted on an edge the weight of the climber stretches from the heel forward. The hole cut in the sole causes the shoe to only stretch in the back half of the shoe effectively leaving the toes in place on the surface of the rock.

Slingshot Rand

One-piece rubber rand wraps around the entire foot preventing stretch and driving the foot forward for a powerful forefoot fit.
VIBRAM® XS Grip2 Technology

VIBRAM® XS Grip2

Represents the natural evolution of VIBRAM® XS Grip, the new XS Grip2 delivers highly improved grip, while maintaining consistent performance in all temperatures. XS Grip 2 is the best solution in pure friction situations while remaining durable and even-wearing.

We like the Katana for an all-around climbing shoe. Just slightly less downturned than our Editors' Choice winner, these shoes are excellent for the climbs when you don't need or want all that curve in your foot, such as on a slab or a long moderate route.

The La Sportiva Katana is essentially the shoe you’ve always known and loved, with a few fit and performance updates. The durability is excellent, so far. Though we’ve only had these for a couple of months, the materials used are tough and the rand is holding strong. These classics definitely deserve a place in any climber’s quiver. If you’re a new climber, you can’t go wrong with the Katana. If you’re a veteran climber than you already know the value of a good pair of do-it-all shoes. The La Sportiva Katana is well deserving of your climbing shoe dollars.

All in all the Katana is a great shoe that does everything well. It is comfortable enough for all-day use whilst being technical enough for the hardest challenges. It offers exceptional build quality and a snug and secure velcro closure system. On the down side the fit isn't as adjustable as that of a lace-up shoe.

Rock and Ice Gear Review rating 4/5

With the Katana, La Sportiva has made a low-volume heel that doesn’t pop off your foot. A tensioned rubber rand cinches the heel, while side indentations contour to the narrow shape of a woman’s foot. However, the heel rand dug into the sensitive Achilles area. According to the Colorado Women’s Bouldering Team member Ashley Woods, the heel becomes more comfortable as it breaks in. With a thick leather upper and lining, the Katana was beefier than the other shoes, making it a good choice for lengthy jam-crack sessions.
