The velcro version of the Katana is a great contender when it comes to all around use. We would recommend this shoe for intermediate to advance climbers. If you’re looking to graduate from your first pair of climbing shoes these could make for a good introduction to the world of aggressive climbing shoes. For the advanced climber, we would consider these as a gym companion when you’re getting the mileage in (especially for those of us who hate taking off their shoes). They’re technical enough to get the job done so you can save your other prized pair of shoes for your hardest projects. While they do come with a fairly big price tage, the Katanas are generally less expensive than the top end shoes out there, making them that much more attractive.
The La Sportiva Katana is a solid gym, sport climbing and bouldering shoe. It stands out for its unique Velcro closure that has circles you can't miss. It also has a unique single-piece tongue that wraps around the entire top of your foot whereas most have a split tongue that joins in the middle. These are pretty comfy for a Velcro shoe.
The La Sportiva Katana is essentially the shoe you’ve always known and loved, with a few fit and performance updates. The durability is excellent, so far. Though we’ve only had these for a couple of months, the materials used are tough and the rand is holding strong. These classics definitely deserve a place in any climber’s quiver. If you’re a new climber, you can’t go wrong with the Katana. If you’re a veteran climber than you already know the value of a good pair of do-it-all shoes. The La Sportiva Katana is well deserving of your climbing shoe dollars.
All in all the Katana is a great shoe that does everything well. It is comfortable enough for all-day use whilst being technical enough for the hardest challenges. It offers exceptional build quality and a snug and secure velcro closure system. On the down side the fit isn't as adjustable as that of a lace-up shoe.
According to this commercial all you need to know is that this shoe will change your color.
