How to use DMM Non Locking Carabiners, Maintenance and Servicing, warnings and lifespan with instructional pictures.
Thor
Description
The Thor’s impressive strength is achieved by moving metal to areas that experience high forces during a fall. This also improves the Thor’s resistance to the wear occurring between the carabiner and bolt hangars when sport climbing. Low weight, full size, and high strength makes the Thor appropriate for sport, trad, and winter climbing.
All-round carabiners can be used across trad, sport, or winter climbing. They are full sized for ease of handling, while I-Beam construction and wire gates keep weight low. If you want one type of carabiner to cover all your climbing needs, you need an all-rounder.
Wire gates are the lightest gate type available, and resist freezing shut in cold conditions. They help reduce rack weight, and are ideal for trad, winter, and alpine climbing.
Wire gate carabiners require a gate notch to achieve their full strength rating. Our notches are minimised while remaining functional, to reduce snagging on other equipment.
I-Beam construction techniques allow carabiners to be lighter without compromising strength. This is achieved through hot forging, a process which allows metal to be made into complex shapes that improve functionality.

The Thor features a shrouded nose. Aside from a full-blown keylock, the shrouded nose is one of my favorite wiregate features. The main intention is to help avoid accidental opening, as when the carabiner slides across rock. Although not advertised as such, my experience is that a shrouded nose helps a lot to reduce snagging of the nose when clipping or unclipping. To add a keylock nose to this ‘biner, it likely would have upped the price about $5 for the consumer as the manufacturing process required to make the keylock is significantly more complicated.
Chris Rowlands came all the way from Wales to give us the scoop behind the DMM Thor carabiner.
This video is kinda "artsy." The first 30 seconds are basically the letters T H O R, and then there's some stats listed (no voiceover). But it's kinda fun background music!
