Description

For all-around climbers who know that time spent fiddling with leg loops and adjusting a pinching waistbelt is time wasted, the Black Diamond Momentum delivers a time-saving design for all styles of climbing. A pre-threaded Speed Adjust waistbelt buckle saves time and eliminates error when tying in, while Dual Core Construction puts an emphasis on comfort, even when you’re posted up at a hanging belay. TrakFIT leg-loops easily adjust for cool fall days at the crag or blazing summer days on long multi-pitches, and four pressure-molded gear loops and a haul loop make this our most popular all-rounder.

Bullhorn-shaped waistbelt built using Dual Core Construction
Patent-pending trakFIT adjustment for easy leg loop customization

Gear Loops

Number of Gear Loops

Gear loops are used to hold gear (quickdraws, cams, etc) onto your harness. 4 gear loops is most common.

0 - 1 Gear Loops

Most often on full body harnesses or guide/gym style harnesses.

2-3 Gear Loops

Mostly found on lighter harnesses made for [ski] mountaineering or high-end sport climbing where weight is a high priority.

4 - 5 Gear Loops

The standard/most common number for climbing harnesses. Perfect for sport and trad.

More Than 6 Gear Loops

Designed for long multi-pitch and big wall climbing, found on harnesses made to hold the maximum amount of gear.

Worth Considering

Occasionally, the number of gear loops will change on a harness model depending on the size. There could be 7 gear loops for the med/large but only 5 gear loops for the xsmall/small. In this case we list the highest number for the filters, and then write an explanation on the product page like, “Size S/XS can only fit 5 gear loops.”

4 Gear loops
Ice Clip Slots

Ice Clip Slot

Ice clipper slots are made to fit a carabiner that holds ice screws. These slots are generally only used by ice climbers but there is no disadvantage to having them on your harness.

Less than 40% of harnesses will have ice clipper slots. And those harnesses will usually have 2 or 4 slots, often located next to, or between, the gear loops.

Haul Loop

Haul Loop

Trad climbers often look for a haul loop as they're intended to haul a rope (second line) or pack (while you climb the chimney).

A haul loop can also hold shoes or other accessories. Although not the intended use, it is also commonly used to hold a chalk bag.

It saved my life

Pros
Light
Comfy
Big gear loops
Padded legs
Adjustable
Coloured belay loop stands out
Cons
Not cented on big people
No small gear loop for chalk bag
Leg adjustments af kinda dicky
Familiarity
I’ve used it a few of times

Good beginer harness with plenty of gear space. Leg loops don't adjust tight on small people and there is no gear loop right at the back for your chalk bag. Comfortable to hang in and belay off. May not be centred on big people as it is only adjustable on one side.

Climbing Gear Review no rating given just a review

With plenty of cushion to keep testers comfy but a very light feel, this harness shines in any conditions and any location, from the gym to all-day routes in Yosemite.

Outdoor Gear Lab Gear Review rating 3.5/5

For a good harness at a great price, this harness is tough to beat. It has the features you need to take you up a lap at the gym or the umpteenth pitch on long multi-pitch climbs. Some of our reviewers complained that the gear loops are too small and are uncomfortable with a pack. Other reviewers liked how easy they were to clip and didn't mind the size.
