Description

The CRYO M ice axe by e-climb.com is the ultimate ice axe for the most demanding climbers. Extremely lightweight and versatile. It comes standard with the HAMMER. Very well-balanced. CRYO ice axes can mount two types of picks: The type 2 “T” ICE pick, which comes standard with the axe, is perfect for alpinism and cascades. And the type 2 “T” DRY pick, especially designed for dry-tooling.

It can also mount 4 different types of hand-rest: The SPIKELESS hand-rest, and is specially designed for a safer dry-tooling activity, preventing pricks in case of fall. The SPIKALPIN hand-rest, which is perfect for classical alpinism and cross-country skiing. The SPIKEFALL hand-rest, which is perfect for extreme alpinism, vertical ice climbing and mixed climbing, thanks to its spikes’ greater tilt and a very good grip for piolet-traction. It prevents annoying pricks on your knees. Lastly, the SPIKE hand-rest, which comes standard, is a classical hand-rest, perfect for alpinism and mixed terrains, with an excellent grip on piolet-traction.

Certifications

The main climbing gear certifications are CE and UIAA--and normally the UIAA creates the rules that the CE body also supports. When possible, we try to list all the certifications the product carries.

To sell a climbing product in Europe, the device must be CE certified. There are no official requirements to sell climbing gear in the US. The UIAA certification is a voluntary process.

Rock and Ice Gear Review rating 2/5

The Cryo swings well. At 1.3 pounds, it's extremely light, and the narrow shaft is great for people with small hands. I also think that the tip of the pick is too far forward of the hand. When you place the tool, you feel like you are miles away from the ice -- good for keeping your knuckles away from the ice, but bad for keeping your weight under the pick. The Cryo is a decent tool that only suffers from trying to be too nifty.
