Description

The new Boostic is designed for technical face climbing where support for continuous micro edging is crucial. This updated model features a new more precise fit, a unique curved midsole for maximum support, and a PAF heel system that provides comfort on long technical routes. The Boostic is the most supportive shoe in our Specialized Performance category.

  • For climbers who look for precision and support on small edges
  • A perfect choice for technical multi-pitch face climbing
  • Upper: Multi-panel microfiber upper with Alcantara big toe panel for the best custom moulding fit. A high-stretch gusset allows easy entry and the twin strap closure system gives support.
  • Technologies: V-Tension active randing system keeps the shape of the shoe over its life. It holds the forefoot in perfect position and supports the toe area while it allows enough flex for smearing.
  • The PAF System is an innovative heel system that helps both spread the force of the heel

Vibram® XS Edge Technology

Vibram® XS Edge

Developed to provide maximum edging support, the VIBRAM®XS Edge compound delivers excellent grip while adding improved firmness for the most challenging edging moves. This rubber compound is exceptionally resistant to deformation on razor sharp edges and it will not creep while smearing.

The Boostic has long been one of Scarpa’s premier climbing shoes, and it received a significant revamp last year. Originally created by the visionary designer Hans Mariacher, the Boostic is simply superb for elite-level climbers, excelling on everything from overhanging terrain to steep pockets and technical edging on thin foot chips. It’s precise, it’s powerful, and the latest iteration is more competitive than ever. Most significantly, Scarpa trimmed some weight and bulk with thinner yet equally strong materials, both in the upper and underfoot (including replacing the previous version’s 4mm rubber with 3.5). The result is even more sensitivity without compromising support (although it will need to be resoled more often), which makes the Boostic an exceptional shoe for long and techy ascents, whether on single pitches or all-day missions.

Fans of the old Boostic who perhaps found the boot too stiff, narrow, or unforgiving will be thrilled with the redesign to this classic shoe—the wider toebox, full microsuede upper, and PAF heel soften up fit to let you size down for performance, with much-reduced foot pain compared to the original. These shoes are overbuilt beasts, incredibly precise on micro holds from credit-card-crimps to divots, with a stable, supportive midsole that lets you stand for ages on little nothings, though with some cost to sensitivity; they'll clearly hold up well to multiple resoles. The narrower, PAF (split-randed) heel was great for hooking, and the double-strap closure was effective for customizing fit. For techy multi-pitch climbs and face, pocket, and edging routes in that sweet spot of 15 degrees to either side of vertical, the new Boostic is a total machine.

The updated Boostic is definitely a more refined product than the original, being lighter, stretching less and being much easier to wear in than its predecessor. That said, it is a very different shoe, offering much more sensitivity, but in turn not offering quite so much support. As a result it will suit some but not others. If you were a fan of the original, there's a chance you'll like it, but there's an equal chance you'll be a little disappointed. If you didn't like the original, or had never worn it, and are after something that is good on edges then they're definitely worth trying on. Fit, after all, is the most important factor of all when it comes to determining whether or not they work for you.

After two months of wear, the Boostic continues to not only deliver the kind of performance I’ve come to expect from Scarpa shoes, but actually surpass it. Edging, smearing, heel-hooking, and toe-hooking are a dream—on the steeps, slabs and everything in between. This is my top pick for a climbing shoe that does it all, really well.
